Mayor and Candidate Mayor of Eastern Limassol
Kyriacos Xydias has been actively involved in public affairs since his school years. As a
university student, he was the President of Proodeutiki in Athens and participated in the Central
Council of the National Student Union of Cypriots in Athens.
After graduating from the Department of Physics at the Kapodistrian University of Athens, he
worked at Hochtief, a company responsible for the construction of Athens International Airport
“Eleftherios Venizelos”. Upon his return to Cyprus, he was employed at the House of
Representatives and later was appointed as a Physics teacher in secondary schools.
In 2016, he was elected Mayor of Yermasoyia, a position he holds up to this day. During his
tenure, among other projects, he promoted and utilized pioneering digital infrastructure for better
accessibility of citizens to municipal services, upgrading the operation of the municipal
machinery, and streamlining procedures. He also utilized modern technological applications for
the purpose of direct communication with citizens and the promotion of e-governance.
In the upcoming elections in Cyprus this June, where for the first time the reform of Local
Government will be implemented, he is running for Mayor of the new Municipality of Eastern
Limassol as an Independent Candidate.
Kyriacos Xydias is married to Marina Dimitriou and has two daughters, aged twelve and four.
