Berk Tansel
Berk Tansel is a passionate advocate for peace, youth engagement, and social change, dedicated to advancing the UN’s Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda. Currently serving as a Parliamentary Associate to MEP Niyazi Kızılyürek at the European Parliament, Berk’s commitment to promoting peace and unity has been a lifelong endeavor. Since his early teenage years, he has actively participated in bi-communal projects supported by political parties across the green line, as well as UNFICYP and the European Union, aiming to bridge divides and foster collaboration in Cyprus.
With a blend of professional background in politics and diplomacy along with expertise in branding and marketing, Berk aims to offer a comprehensive perspective enriching his contributions to peace-building within the Cyprus context. In addition to his role as a Parliamentary Assistant, Berk served as a Public Policy Associate at Oxygono, reinforcing his commitment to fostering diplomatic and bi-communal relations in public policy areas.
Furthermore, Berk’s dedication extends to addressing logistical, legal, and regulatory barriers to trade across the Green Line as a Green Line Trade Facilitator at a Cyprus-based online shopping platform. Beyond professional endeavors, Berk actively engages in social and political activities, aspiring to be a passionate advocate for Cypriot LGBTQIA+ rights at both local and European levels.
Collaborating with diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, businesses, and local partners, Berk works tirelessly to support LGBTQI+ issues and communities. He also serves as the Networking & Engagement Secretary at the Global Policies Center (GLOPOL), an independent think-tank based in Cyprus, where he develops and implements engagement strategies and programs, advocating for engagement in various community events and meetings.
Berk’s active participation in conferences and seminars, including moderating a panel on ‘Women’s Empowerment in Economic & Social Life’ at the UNFICYP’s 2nd Business & Networking fair, further enriches his commitment to fostering positive change and advancing the cause of peace and security, particularly in the context of Cyprus.
